About Me

I am a Ph.D candidate at in Linguistics at UT Austin specializing in linguistic anthropology and computational semantics. I use computational techniques to study word meaning (usually in English). I approach meaning as a social and cultural phenomenon. Words can tell us about people, and cultural lingiuistic practice can tell us about the structure of linguistic meaning.
My dissertation research studies attitudes about meaning in the arena of Natural Language Processing Research. I am interested in how ideas about language influence the development and circulation of language technologies and applications of deep learning.
My PhD research was funded by an National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. I am part of the DeepMay network.
